Default He's gone!

OH set off to NZ on Tuesday going to job hunt. He has a few contacts in Auckland but a main contact who return from hols on Fri so fingers crossed for that. We've decided to give it 3 months if nothing found he will come home and that will be the end of it. Luckily he's on the skill short list so should speed up the work permit application, if we get that for.

Been really strange not having him here, and this is the first saturday without him......I'm a bit lost. He has called me a couple of times. It will all be worth it when the rest of us are on the plane (me, child and dog).

Has anyone else got there this way? Did it work?

Hi Dawn,

I have just registered with this Site Today! and immediately saw your notes.

I Fully understand how you feel and had to share my families Plans with you, as encouragement that it will work. My Husband Steve has done just the same as you & your husband. Steve left for NZ on the last day of June 09, leaving me and my twin 10yr old boys home, taking with him a handful of contacts that we made when we went for a Holiday at the end of March 09. He too has a return Ticket but he won't be using it, as he went for a few meetings, (his job was on the Skilled shortage list - Lorry Driver), was offered a Job, passed his NZ Driving Licence, had his Medical, got his NI Number and all that before he Applied for his Work Permit, which he did in Hamilton NZ and within 3-4 weeks he received confirmation he had been successful!

Before he left we had booked our Tickets (it was such a Good deal, we couldn't not). So we are due out November 09. On a Holiday Ticket valid for 6
Months and in the meantime Steve is applying for us to become Residents via the "Expression of Interest" route.

The first couple of weeks he was away were awful. We All Cried like Mad when we left him at the Airport and when he wanted to come home because he was lonely, the weather was awful and he didn't seem to be getting anywhere, it was heart wrenching BUT a bit of encouragement to stay and give it a go as it was going to be the only opportunity proved to be the right move.

I've just got to sort things out here now! I could go on and on with bits of Information but I'll let you read this first and let me know if I can help with anything.

Lots of Luck to you All

Hi,

He is a Bar manager, we couldn't believe it was on the ISSL, he has a few contacts but has really good chance of getting a job in Leigh, north Auckland, we would be living in Warkworth which seems really nice. The guy who is offering the job is on hols til fri 18th so he is just waiting and praying that comes off. In the mean time he luckily is staying at his mates in Palmerston North and applying for jobs from there and I'm doing the same from here.

He is booking his medical when he gets there, a lot cheaper over there. As soon as he gets a work permit I booking a flight, hoping to be there Nov time too. If not can't see him staying there for Xmas.

Keep you informed

Kia Ora and welcome to this little BE NZ forum Donna.

I hope you won't mind my posting this Donna and apologies to Blackburn Lass for this off topic post, but something that DMiles has written has caught my attention big time.

Donna.

The occupation of truck/lorry driver is on the immediate shortage list. This list is compiled to aid the issue of temporary work visa and permits . That list contains both skilled and unskilled occupations.

Unless something has changed recently, truck and lorry driving is not seen as a skilled occupation or trade by NZIS . This means that your husband cannot claim points for a skill , nor points for a job in a skilled occupation under the skilled migrant category . ( you called this the expression of interest route) So your husband will be unable to apply for PR under this policy as he will not be able to raise enough points. If he does pay the money to submit an EOI and chance his arm then the strong likelihood is that NZIS will remove the points he has claimed and reject the application.

Please do double check what I have written with NZIS before paying out good money to submit an EOI.

Here is the list of occupations seen as skilled by NZIS and so one can claim points. (click the link)

The only way that I know of that a heavy goods driver can go for PR is through a WTR application. This policy is where the truck driver has a job with an NZIS accredited employer and can show they earn $55K pa for around a 40 hr week. They can apply for a Work to Residence visa. They have two years of temp work permits and then they can apply for PR . I have yet to read of any truck driver attaining this . I do believe some specialist tanker drivers do earn this type of money.
Most all of the truck drivers seem to remain on temp. work permits and the ones that gain PR do so through their spouses skilled occupations.

I read that you are coming to NZ in November. I'm thinking that you should apply for a temporary work visa under the family policy on the back of your husbands temporary work permit. It gives you an open work permit and will last for the exact same length of time as your husband's. Depending on your childrens ages, you will also need to apply for student visas to enable them to go to school here. This will get you up and running as a family in NZ. Make sure you take all the necessary family documents with you for the applications. You will also need to show proof that you have lived with your husband over the past two years. Marriage Cert. bills & bank statements in joint names etc.

Donna,

OH occupation is only on the Immediate skill shortage list aswell and so we aren't applying for pr straight away, because we just won't get it. We intend to both be on work permits (on the back of his) for at least one year and then apply for pr as you can get more points for him being in skilled employment for over 12 months. Check to see if he his on that list Bevs gave. Don't go wasting money, you'll need it. (Mostly to move the Dog)

Thanks,

To be honest I think he is missing us more. He is really worried that he may be there for months before he finds something. But we have to be positive.

In my head I'm already there, I am desperate to sort out things to take, things to get rid of. And for some strange reason I am panicking about what shoes to take and which to leave Surely I have more important issues just now (but shoes are important)

I'll keep you all informed.

Hey Dawn

Only just got to this thread.

My Oh did this in May this year. He went with a flexible return ticket booked for just over 2 weeks from when he went, but, he took his police cert with him and was prepared to stay if required, should the right job come along and he had to stay to get the right permit. (he said bye to his mum on the basis he may not be back for a good while)
He had the only interview for a 'proper job' cancel the morning he flew out. and was in a thoroughly downbeat frame of mind when we waved him off at the train station. He really thought he wasnt going to achieve anything but was aware that if he wasnt there he was never going to get anything either if you get what i mean.
I was worried about him going so far away on his own. He was going to stay with his cousin, but i was still very concerned.
So off he went, very upset, and we went home without him, very upset. His mum called me when we were driving home but i couldnt talk
As the days went on, we talked plenty and his mood improved. He kept himself busy and his cousin and the wife looked after him really well.
One night when i had been chatting with him for a good hour 'skype is fab' i just curled up on the sofa and cried for a good half hour. havent done that in a long time
But he came home after 17 days and the job was offered to him via email the following morning.
We have since gone through the EOI, the ITA and have just got 'approved' last week. I cannot belive it worked - head still spinning. Hopefully flying out around Christmas with job due to start 1st feb. RESULT

I wish you and your OH all the luck and i wish either him a speedy return or you a speedy exit

You could always be strong like me and blub all over the sofa - it really does help. (especially if the kids dont see)

p.s. he's never going anywhere without me again!!!!

Funny innit about our other halves.
Mine has been gone two weeks now . He is back in the UK spending time with his elderly Mom. I thought it would be great having the house and everything to myself. No rolled up socks in the wash bin. No smelly work clothes. No husband to interfere with me pots and pans and move stuff to hidden places or scoff whole packets of biscuits n one fell swoop. But , I am now ready for him to come back and drive me mad again which he will do in one weeks time.

I do know it is tough though when emigrating. Mr BEVS and I were apart for 2 months as he left for NZ before me.

Hi,

Thanks for the information, this totally puts a different outlook on things!
Finding out more information today, as up-routing for 2 years with no EOI/PR at the end of this time would not be the outcome we want.

In the meantime, any further advice, encouragement would be appreciated!

Thanks again.

Hi Dawn,

Thanks for your replies. Lots going on isn't there? And looking at the EOI/PR situation albeit more work to do, makes us even more determined to follow it through.
Keep me informed of your developments and I wish you all the luck....

What is your line of work? I work for a Laundry Monorail Manufacture Company, Admin/Receptionist supporting the Installation Manager.
