This is actually my line of work so, without advertising, if anyone wants any advice, by all means pm me and, for the record, I agree with those who say don't appoint a solicitor as Executor, unless you have no alternative, because yes, it can be expensive (tho not always) although, to be fair, estates are becoming increasingly more complex due to inheritance tax mitigation (in the UK) and second and third families. Anyway, happy to help!

Hi Ping Pong Pom, Could you expand on the IHT issue a bit more. It's certainly an area not well understood (by me at least!). Is there a method of extracting oneself from Inheritance Tax?

There's starting point for that too, so you'd need substantial UK assets, £325,000 in 2011/12. Though I suppose if you've hung onto a house down south in UK, it'll probably exceed that amount. That said there's no UK Inheritance Tax to spouses.
