Re: Hamilton
We lived in Hamilton for several months and didn't quite understand why some people are so negative about it. There are many things we liked about it, the location (so handy to so many cool places for weekend visits), the compact size, the Hamilton Gardens, lots of activity groups for socialising / exercising...
The reason we left was simply that my husband's hayfever hit him like a ton of bricks over there, far worse than anywhere else in NZ. I also found myself getting a bit asthmatic at the first sign of winter, as it is a humid place with all that fog and mould started growing on the windows pretty quickly. We also missed being near the sea, so Tauranga was eventually a better choice for us, but Hamilton is definitely a nice place to live if you don't have these health issues like us.

My family and I moved to Hamilton 6 mths ago, we love it. Rototuna in Hamilton is lovely, come down and have a look around, we are happy here. Good luck.

Re: Hamilton
Thanks for all of the replies on this topic.
We have now returned to the UK armed with lots of information and experiences.
Hamilton definitely sounds like it is worth looking at and there is certainly work in my field (software development) to be found there.
Will keep you all posted on future developments.

Rototuna is lovely if you like new suburbs. If older suburbs with more mixed use is more your thing, check out Hamilton East - streets around Grey, Nixon, etc. Some are in Hillcrest/ Berkley zone too.
