greetings from sunny Kapiti coast
Just a bit of gloating. Walked the dog on the beautiful beach this morning, people swimming and sunning themselves. Got home and phoned hubby and guess what!! IT'S RAINING IN WELLINGTON
Just beautiful up here, I am so glad we decided to live on the sunny Kapiti coast.
Oh well time to hit my sunlounger, with a good book and a scummy kapiti ice-cream. Bliss

Hi Kaz
where about on the Kapti coast are you? the reason i ask is that the we currently live on the beach in Napier ( i work in Wellington) and the OH has a chance of a new job in wellington. I dont really want to live in Wellington and have often driven up the Kapiti coast but not visited the beaches. where are good places to live near on on a beach in Kapiti coast?

Paekakariki: Small village, few shops, primary school, sand disappears at high tide. Station.
Raumati South: primary school & Rudolf Steiner school. Arty feel to it, bit hilly and houses tend to overlook each other with a couple of new estates. No train station or shops.
Raumati Beach: 'posher' than RSouth. Primary school and College, few shops and cafes, good park and beach. No train station or supermarket.
Paraparaumu: main town, shopping centre, cinema (coastlands), library. Quite spread out and can get busy (by NZ standards!). Train station by SH1 and shops.
Waikanae: smaller town 5 mins to north, best beach and river with a couple of good restaurants/cafes/takeaways in Waikanae Beach. Lots of oldies/retirement places. 2 primary schools so plenty of young families too. 2 supermarkets, small cinema and shopping centre/library. End of train line so wouldn't consider going further north. The quietest town of them all but also the flattest and cheapest housing wise.
Have a trip up and investigate what suits you. My OH commutes from Waikanae to Wellington each day taking about 1 hour door to door and he always gets a seat!

Just to add to what MOSO said. The weather is definatly so much better than Wellington or the Hutt valley. I live at the moment in a rented place in Paraparaumu beach. but we are looking to buy in Paekakariki.
The beach in Paekakariki in my opionion only is the nicest along the coast. Lovely little village, a couple of lovely cafe's, a steiner kindy, nice park and as I said great beach. Lot's of artists, poets ect make it their home, so it can have quite an alternative feel to it. Has a train station to Wellington and that takes about 45 mins.
Paraparaumu Beach, is long and wide but does get quite a lot of debris washed up on it. Got a village centre, fab Saturday farmers market, shops cafe's, banks and the best fish and chip shop around here.
Paraparumu town has decent size shopping centre, banks, supermarkets, cinema and a large very, very good library.
Waikanae, nice beach, lovely cafe down by the beach called Drift (worth a stop) they even bring out water and dog buscuits for your pampered pet. Great food for humans too. Got a really lovely little cinema, couch type seats and tables and you can take your drinks in with you.
Raumati (no offence intended to anyone who lives there). My opionion only is it seems pretty boring, not much there. Although they are building a large aquatic centre there which looks very good.
All in all I am very glad we came up here, there is everything I need, encluding good schooling. I don't need to go to Wellington often, but if I do it is only 50 mins by train or 45 by car.
Great lifestyle up here and as Moso said more for your money house wise, flatter sections and more modern houses.
Def worth you coming up for a look
