the G.C.
Okok
I'll put up my hands, after hearing about on the radio yesterday I watched this programe
Anyone else?
IMHO they were the least Maori type Maori's I have ever seen. I mean honestly when was the last time you saw a Maori bloke moisturise !
I won't be watching it again - not my cup of tea and apparently not many here either. Just heard it's the top tweet today and hardly any for it.
Seem our cuz bro population don't like the look it gives them?

The worst thing is that we're all paying for this poor excuse for a documentary courtesy of NZ on Air.

Shame I missed it. I'm surprised that they're even allowed to show Kiwis having a good time overseas.
For anyone wondering what it's all about:

Do they still broadcast TV? Given the above comments I don't appear to be missing much.

Have you ever heard such a load of bleating about nothing? Second day of whining about it all day on the radio. It's TV for heaven's sake if people don't like it they can switch it off.
Seems to me a whole lot of sour grapes, they're mostly peeved to see cool and trendy young Maori being shown in a positive light, working, being successful and owning homes.

What do you mean by 'they'? Believe me, I've heard quite a few Maori around here saying what they saw was anything but portraying Maori in a positive light, in their minds. In fact I think the major beef is coming from Maori, if I'm not mistaken. Although it's not really a major for me, if the truth be known.

Suspect you're right about the sour grapes thing..but they had the same bs about the Real housewives of Van when it started in Canada, people bleating on line etc about how crap it was and not showing Van in a positive light blah blah blah and yet..the ratings were HUGE.

Re: the G.C.
Same with the GC I think it was something like the sixth most popular after the usual stalwarts of One News, Coronation Street and Shortland Street.
They can keep bleating until the sheep come home about it being a load of crap and a waste of funding from TVNZ but honestly it can't be any worse than watching Coronation Street day in and day out. They were practically rioting in the streets the week they changed the time of Coro to accomodate the Aussie Masterchef finals.
Assuming the world needs another reality series of this ilk and the GC starts getting broadcast on the Global network, I don't doubt we'll see a huge turnaround in the naysayers.
Gold Coast Tourism folks have already expressed concerns that it will damage their image. If they ignored it I guess it would have gone away but since so many people are making it into a big issue and getting hysterical about it, the more that will be interested in seeing what its all about. Hype!!

Re: the G.C.
It was actually just the 8th most popular show of the day, let alone the week, and the 3rd most popular of the timeslot. No doubt it will rate through the roof though next week after the publicity. I think what a lot of people are peed off about is that it was pitched as a documentary to get funding (ie our taxpaying dollars), but has ended up as so obviously a scripted and acted show, with a lot of girls in bikinis sitting by a pool, and guys laying around on the beach seemingly not needing to do any work and talking about how 'easy' the 'aunties' (ie women) are on the Gold Coast.
