Default Fried laptop?

I brought my UK laptop over to NZ. I used a UK entension lead plus an adapter to charge it (instead of replacing the plug).
In a space of one day, it has gone from working fine to being very very slow. It's only 6 months old and fairly reliable (Dell).

No spyware as I have McAfee and have done checks.

Could it be the NZ electricity which has sizzled my computer?

Has it happened to anyone else?

It's safe to say it won't be NZ electricity 'cos that's the same as the UK, plus as it's a laptop you're still running off the same battery you were in the UK....therefore as long as the battery isn't flat nothing has changed.

Afraid you'll have to look for another cause

What exactly is "going slow"? If it's the internet...then sadly "welcome to NZ"! If you've not used the PC for a while it could be busy downloading/installing a backlog of Windows updates - there have been a number recently.

Any more details?

Thanks for the reply.

It's mostly getting onto the internet and going from site to site. It can take a good 3-4 minutes to load a page up. I'm not sure if it is NZ internet because I've had no problems in the last 2 weeks.

Windows Media Player is fine. So is Microsoft Office, as are my iTunes (fully backed up!)

Its just the internet, which was fine up and until a few days ago.

As I mentioned, the laptop is a few months old, and has a decent processor for speed (AMD64 x 2).

McAfee says that all is fine. No spyware and all firewalls are on. Scanned files are fine.

If you don't have a surge protector it could be the NZ electricity as there do seem to be a number of spikes!

What sort of internet plan are you on? Perhaps you've used too much and now you've been 'choked' back to dial-up speeds. We sometimes get that at the end of the month when the kids have been 'sharing' too many files!!
