I am looking at return flights to the UK. Needs to be around June/July outward unfortunately , if it is to happen at all , otherwise no point.
I am seeing quite some mighty prices. These days we have to think very hard on what is sensible or doable.
Not of an age to do the yo-yo, multiple ups and downs to get there. Needs to be just the two flights out and then back. We might be able to do a few days stopover. Not sure.
What sort of prices would anyone expect please?

It is with Air China mind and sadly it is via Auckland. There is no flight via Sydney with Air China unfortunately. I would think you would get looked after in the likely event you miss your return domestic flight given how ridiculous the amount of time they have given you to get through Auckland

I think you could possibly get a train from Heathrow to Warrington via Reading.
Probably cost a lot more to do that but possibly an option? It would also mean going on a Cross Country train, which is a negative but it may help avoiding the London Underground.
There's also this company that could help move some of your luggage if required. Friends of ours that went back used them and were happy with the price (given they returned to Perranporth *lucky*)

I don't think there's as many coaches during the weekends than weekdays. Megabus as an example don't often travel as much on weekend dates as they do on weekday dates.

Sevenseas ae an option for luggage but they aren't cheap. I used them for a couple of cases coming home, trying to move 5 by myself just wasn't feasible! They were certainly quick, and cost much the same as standard air freight, but they messed up the paperwork leading to a lot of headaches this end, with the importing company threatening to return the bags to Australia because I hadn't answered their email within 3 hours. Tricky to do that when one is on a 17 hour flight

Thats what I thought, I did look and could only find those with changes. Not sure where Justcol got the direct one from
Reading is certainly an option though I think it means even more changes.

I thought you could get a cross country service direct from there but it only seems to go to Manchester Piccadilly now. There would have to be a change at Wolverhampton
That may be easier, navigating Wolverhampton station than going through London

We need our luggage for various stop offs in Adelaide, Singapore etc. We've also got quite a bit of medication to bring as well

A friend has suggested a chauffeur company that she uses and so I've been in touch with them.

Just thought I;d come in to say thank you. I hadn't asked and walked away , it is just that things have remained in the air for several reasons.
We've been having monster discussions - again - about where we see ourselves best off being for what remains of our lives. My life more as he is younger. Having a sudden FB Messenger with a few good friends of himself was very unsettling all round although it was lovely at the time.
MrBEVS offered that just I go back for the special event but I can't do that. It would be wrong, especially given the expense and that he also has not been home for several years. So I think I have given up on being there which is a bit of a heartbreak but I will live.
However we are now considering a joint much longer visit as a recce. A feasibility exercise if you like. We cannot just sell up and leave. We are pensioners and like LittleGreyCat there is stuff to weigh up .

If you do do an extended visit then you'll be most welcome to stay with us for a while.
