Hi,
We are very keen to move out to Christchurch in the next six months. Planning a two-week reccie in August (already been over there twice before).
Husband works in the UK as a domestic appliance engineer - NZ call this an 'electrical appliance service person' and to do the job there requires EWRB registration.
Problem is, whilst he has 15+ years work experience here, he has no qualifications as they're not needed here. We've contacted the EWRB to ask what to do about this but their reply was incomprehensible. It seems that he could enrol on a week-long course and sit the EWRB exam whilst we're there in August to get registered, then come back to UK and apply for jobs from here. But I think under EWRB regs you need to be an NZ resident to sign up for the course, so that wouldn't work. Is that right?
So the other option is, we guess, to apply for jobs and once he has a job offer and a work visa, to move there and do the course in his first couple of weeks...but doing it that way, won't potential employers be put off as all the job adverts say you must be qualified to even apply...??
We're really confused - can anyone help?

seems to be more involved than just a week long training course but i cant see anything saying must be nz resident

Have a look at Downunder Tradies, they do courses in London for NZ registration, hope this helps
