This is England ‘86
Recommend this TV series so much, it’s a carries on from the original film ‘This is England’ (set in 1983). Shane Meadows is just genius; I’ve only seen the first two episodes but it’s dark and brilliantly gripping. I wonder how much of it is Shane telling stories about him and his mates through his art?
Brilliant script, brilliant acting and nicely directed. Classically British to watch, not always easy but it’s actually meaningful and tells a story with a good dose of truth in it. The best bit of TV I’ve seen in a long time.
Don’t just take my word for it:

The first 2 episodes weren't actually directed by Shane Meadows but the last 2 are.
The 3rd episode is quite "gritty" and the 4th is supposedly even more so.
