Emigration insurance/ Travel etc...
Hi,
Can anyone help?
We are leaving the Uk this Friday, heading to Singapore & then on to Christchurch.
We have some basic travel insurance with our bank accounts but should we have a different type?
Is there a special type of one way, emigration insurance and anything that supports medical treatment if needed in NZ.
Most appreciated, thanks in advance xx

From memory, I think we used a company called Down Under insurance? Google emigration insurance, something will come up. We bought a package for enough days to get us to our first flatshare, then got contents insurance with the bank straight away, just to cover the valuables we were carrying.

We didn't do anything special. We had free travel insurance cover with two different banks as benefits with our accounts and we also had a specific travel insurance policy for worldwide holiday travel. May have been an issue if we had claimed as if I remember correctly there is mention in the small print that you have to be ordinarily resident in the uk with a uk address and all that jazz so any claim may have been denied ?
As soon as I started work we all became covered for all manner of things due to the insurance schemes I get as part of my salary package.
Since then we have also taken out car insurance and contents insurance.
I'm sure I looked at emigration insurance when we were due to travel but didn't take out a policy. Can't even remember if I found any ?

If you are on a 3 yr work visa , then you will be covered for health services just as an NZ resident is.
That is you pay for GPs at point of service. You will get emergency medical help if needs be.
Once in NZ you can apply to have contents insurance for your possessions via a bank or company like AMI.
I'm sure that one way travel ins is available however you need to ensure that the company knows you will no longer be ordinarily resident in the UK. I think a one way ins like this may last for no longer than a week.

Thanks all for your advice... I've hooked up with some short term emigration insurance which was not much difference to the normal travel insurance...
Thank you
