Default Do we need privacy anyway?

Yet another government department or quasi-government organisation releasing private information on lots of people by accident. That got me thinking though...should there be some information just made available in the public domain anyway?

I think of places like Norway where people can log onto a government database and search each other’s tax records and I have to say...who cares? Surely the open sharing of more information would lead to a more honest, open and forthright society.

Not to mention the useful demographic and financial information that could be used in research, to pressure governments making changes on problems currently hidden under the guise of privacy and help the public prevent financial fraud. e.g. income tax evasion, a popular pastime in New Zealand

Anyway my point on privacy stands.

With only 2 degrees of separation, it's no biggie, everyone is either related or knows each others business already, so they may as well publish it for all to see.

Do you close the bathroom curtains when you shower? There's your answer.

I suspect it's a generational thing. Young people today () seem to be very happy displaying all sorts of info on social media sites, older people like my mum think facebook is the work of the devil. I'm sorta in the middle.
