Re: Dire Prognostications!
I was kind of joking but thought some more about it and have transferred a massive $300 from my savings into sterling today. That will make a big difference, eh? The money is earning stuff all in interest, so worth a small punt I feel. The bank rate rate wasn't that fantastic 2.12 but I will check again tomorrow and maybe do the same again dripfeeding a few bucks in and hope to gain some back later in the year.
There you go folks I've done my bit to move the rate up for you and it is sure to start going massively the other way now that I've decided to buy some quids and am willing it to go to $2 for 1 pound.

Not gloating.....Honest!!!
We were just lucky to be sending money back at the right time (for us) but I know how stressful it is to be bringing over less than you'd planned for due to circumstances beyond your control......it happened to us at the begining of the year, at least now we have gained a bit back

Re: Dire Prognostications!
For a brief time period when people have lots of money in their hands awaiting exchange they will be praying for a higher rate. At another time in your life when you live here and are earning Kiwi dollars and thinking of returning to UK or Europe for a visit, believe me, you too will be wishing it were the other way round.
If things were completely the other way and people were getting $3 for a Pound then I guarantee there would be a heck of a lot of high fives and gloating on this forum.
Neither scenario suits us all, but for some there will be a silver lining and whichever way it was I would be pleased for them. I personally am chuffed for MnB getting such a lucky strike, because migration is an expensive business if things don't work out and to see someone leave NZ with more than they came with is a very rare novelty.

Thanks BJ, there are def winners & loosers in this fickle money market!!
Just wish we were going back with more than we brought over!!....it's been a very expensive 'suck it & see' experience but the rate has helped recover some of our losses so for us it was an unexpected bonus
