Default Death of a parent

Question: if a parent dies (both in the UK) and the remaining parent wanted to come and live with a daughter / son in NZ, is that possible?

They are entitled to stay as a vistor for six months in a year.

But regarding residency, those are the rules, regardless of the situation.

Sorry if you are expecting bad news from the UK.

M-and-M, your parent can apply under the "new" Parent Category if you (and your partner) can meet the income requirement, or they have pension or some money - it does not take too long to get the visa if you meet the requirements but its a lot of work and money to get the visa, they can come on a visitor visa in the meantime whilst they wait, it seems if you cannot support your parent or they cannot support themselves - its tough to get in now as a parent, sorry to hear you may have sad news.

Hi M_and_M.

Have a big hug from me. Sounds like you are having a right tough time of it at the moment , on top of just emigrating.

Please take a look at this link and then scroll down to Multiple Entry visa for parents.

Can't remember off the top of my head whether you have residency or not.

I know the new rules for the new tiered parent residency visas are a bit tough but it was felt that something needed to be adjusted to ensure parents of migrants coming in could
a - support themselves
b - continue to support themselves if their child then left the country - to Oz for example.
Remember that migrants come to NZ from all over the world . Family structures can differ to our own. From some countries an elderly parent becomes, in essence , dependent . That person may have no means to support themselves at all.
So, changes were made.

Explore the multiple entry visa. From memory a few parents have used this until their kids had the required criteria under their belt .

all the best
