The best solution to a damp house is not to buy one in the first place!

For heavens sakes do yourselves a favour - buy a piece of land and have a house built to code.

Job done .

Looked into that time and time again but there was no section that we could afford round here.... unless we wanted one the size of a postage stamp.

Nah!!! Rather have the character of an older property. Obviously a well insulated, warm house .

We suffered a cold winter last year just because we had virtually no insulation (50 year old house) and couldn't get used to the woodburner. In fact, we were sold damp wood that wouldn't burn properly (that's our excuse).

Sice then, we have expolled the floors and have airfoamed the wall cavities. Best money we could've spent. House needs decorating but we're toasty warm now.

So far this "winter" they've probably been running for a combined total of about 30 hours. We have small electric heaters with time switches and thermostats in the bedrooms, which we have yet to turn on this winter, and heated towel rails (which use 60W) in the bathrooms. This lot seems a totally adequate heating solution - why spend hugely more to have pipes and radiators everywhere?
Hi, we too have a heat pump, just one in the main living area - been on no more than 2 hrs so far this autumn/winter - and well effetive - in fact, gor so hot after 10 mins at 23 degrees had to take my ski socks and mask off
