Default could this be the beginning of a new life in NZ?

First of all what a great site. Some great info.
Have always lived in UK. And until last night thought we always would!!
As a family, 1 child of 10yrs, we have for a couple of years looked at moving/living/working abroad. Australia - have family there and NZ..
Nothing has ever come up.
Until now..
Hubby had a Skype interview last night for a job sort for him through an agency here in uk.. now my brain is in over-drive. He has a second Skype interview next week and should he be successful with this then the NZ company are coming over to interview in person the shortlist of interviewees at the end of September 2015.
Reading continually at the moment about cost of living, visa's, education, housing, health care etc is overwhelming. Christchurch is the companies location.
Any advice at this early stage would be fab.

That's quite a long process. For him and you !

Is it a fairly high level job ?

his job in on the list of skilled occupation and on the canterbury list (temp visa). so as long has he has the requireed criteria given on them and gets a job offer the visa should be straight forward, as long as their are no hiccups like medicals or character problems

Medical should be ok. What is the process for the character check? Would there be an interview?

I think I need to start putting pen to paper and working out the cost implications. Where do I start? Visa costs, medicals, shipping.

We dont want to run before we can walk and we don't want fame or fortune just a decent, happy, balanced life. My hubby may not even get the job yet but ignorance is not excuse to not do my homework! !

We have checked a sight in NZ for house rentals and they vary as do rentals anywhere. You get what u pay for dependant on area. What is the average wage of a welding inspector? I have Googled it but still none the wiser.

Thanks in advance for any info

It is an ACRO certificate that gives the details of your criminal record. If you don't have a criminal record then it says that there is nothing.

police check would cover the character reference.

as for wages, not sure how it would work as your OH won't have worked in NZ so will probably have to start being supervised (?) something you would need to find out by the agency.
Who are the agency if you don't mind saying, some on here may have already been through the process, you never know

I'm not sure which agency but it is based here in UK. I am police checked through work but OH isnt. Ive read before about the supervision first when you arrive. So OH could ask this at the interview.

no you need to provide police checks but don't worry to much about that as they only last 3 mths, I think.

Thanks for the link. Yes his occupation is on the skilled list and canterbury list too.

New Zealand is great for that. IMHO, better than the UK. Your 10-yr old will have an awesome childhood/teenage years.
