Cloud?

I'm not in Auckland but one thing I've learnt is that cloud is and isn't that important. Actually cloud is important just as climate is. Is that what you mean

Well, I grew up in the pennines and the low dark cloud through winter made the days dark and depressing. It was cold and windy too which made it worse. I can live with it but I just want to know what it is like in Auckland really.

Well, it varies Summer days can be lots of blue skies with the odd cloud or complete cloud cover but still very warm. You can still get badly sun-burnt on those cloudy days. As many people have found to their cost.

Presently, I can't see any sky, just cloud. It's windy with strong gusts & showers.

But still quite warm Vitalstix. Definitely no-where near as dark and foreboding as in the Pennines. The clouds are generally quite high (when there are some), even though they are grey at the moment.

You certainly do not getting as many grey days here in Auckland as we used to get in London and as a few have already said even though it might be cloudy it is still hot, humid and the sun will still burn. Hope that helps

I'm afraid I've turned soft since living here. Anything less than 20 degrees C is freezing to me . I used to be a hardy northerner but I'm ashamed to say 'no more'

Agree with you on the Pennines thing though.

Non-Auckland related but nevertheless, cloud in Wellington moves faster than any other cloud I have ever seen before!

In comparison to the UK cloud in Auckland is insignificant.

Default The land of the long white cloud

Honestly it has been dark satanic hills here these past few days. Forget cloudless idyllic blue sky thinking, the clouds here are no less significant than the UK. I was going out of my mind yesterday, it really felt like I hadn't seen daylight for three whole days with it being so grey, dark and rainy.

Sunday afternoon we had to have lights on indoors at 3pm so that I could follow a recipe for dinner.

Auckland gets more rain than anywhere in the UK that I am aware of (maybe not Scotland) and guess what? That rain comes from clouds. Therefore, with my powerful skills of deduction I conclude Auckland must have more clouds than the UK, if that helps at all.

Thankfully we had some sun today.

Caveat: the weather all over Auckland isn't necessarily the same from one end of town to the other all at the same time, on the same day. We can have a rainy day and friends over the water will say 'what rain?' and vice versa. Seriously some other friends just moved a few miles nearer to town from Titirangi, because it rains too much there. We can usually see the 'long white cloud' out on the west horizon and over the Waitakeres.

I think the OP is trying to assess how many days NZ have to suffer low dense cloud cover without the sun ever penetrating. Don't forget the lines of latitude that both countries are on means that the UK is already suffering for daylight even without cloud. The saying is that NZ has twice as much rain as the UK in half as many days!......Accurate?
