Though pastoral livestock farming almost certainly contributes to pollution by Cryptosporidium and Giardia in waterways as well.

Of course if or when someone can figure out how to make in a factory cheaper than a cow in a field this problem will go away. After all it's a massively inefficient use of land really.

Funny enough we have

- The cow drinks over 100 litres per day
- They generate over 35 litres of milk per day
- 3 Kw of power per cow per day

Their shit and waste is washed down to bio digester

Outputting:
- Class A Water for the fish farm ---> Hydroponic plant - Water cooling of data centre, water reservoir's - drinking water for cows, water to assist with cow wash down.
- Fertiliser for crop fields
- Gas for Co Generation of power for data centre

Almost 100% water conservation (300 acre fish farm covered by solar farm which reduces evaporation

Fluorine, chlorine...NZ water treatment stations and public pools seem to overdose on the stuff. Turn on a tap in so many places and the smell of chlorine hits you. Same for swimming pools. What is going on? Is NZ water full of more bacteria? Are NZers dirtier (I'd say yes after last visit to Rotorua public pool where I got sick and people were spashing around in t-shirts and shorts without bathing caps).

Take it from me they don't use fluorine...........and chlorine isn't added to the public baths.
Don't be a victim of hysteria. Avoid tin foil hats. Fluoridation of drinking water is done in most developed countries. Only tin foil merchants and over charging Nz dentists would have you dream otherwise.

Chlorine gas, well the stuff we used in the lab was pretty green. The stuff thelunatics used in the fluorine lab was different but I wouldn't know as the closest I got was either AsF5 OR N2F4 or maybe hydrofluoric acid (HF) blowing around the fume chipboard........so chlorine would be both clean and green. Appropriate for use in nz and for testing on nz workers as happened the other day AFIK.

When the smell of chlorine is over-powering in the swimming baths it just means that lots of people have pee'd in it

Cambell live, the Daily Mail of NZ TV.

only 130 homes in a hick town affected, not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things is it.

it costs around 80 bucks for filter to solve the problem so the options are
1) Buy a filter, problem solved
2) Do nothing and continue to bleat and moan
I know which option I would be choosing and then just getting on my life

I'll try again to post here in the interest of everyones awareness.
Fluorine, Chlorine and Bromine are essentially poisons used to treat water and food. Iodine is a necessary element but doesn't get much of a look in these days.

Fluoridehttp://thyroid.about.com/b/2008/01/0...t-fluoride.htm

IodineIodine actually induces apoptosis, meaning it causes cancer cells to self-destruct. Dr. Jorge Flechas, MD is adamant that absence of iodine in a cell is what causes cancer, and statistics tend to support this view. Unfortunately, iodine levels have significantly dropped in the United States (NZ follows US trends) in recent decades due to several factors, including:
Bromine exposure: When you ingest or absorb bromine (found in baked goods, plastics, soft drinks, medications, pesticides and more), it displaces iodine, and this iodine deficiency leads to an increased risk for cancer of the breast, thyroid gland, ovary and prostate -- cancers that we see at alarmingly high rates today
•Declining consumption of iodine-rich foods, such as iodized salt, eggs, fish, and sea vegetables
•Soil depletion
•Less use of iodide in the food and agricultural industry
•Fluoridated drinking water
•Rocket fuel (perchlorate) contamination in food
