Re: citizenship
Do you still need to attend a citizenship ceremony? If so, you should bear in mind that you are not NZ citizens until you do.

Re: citizenship
yeh I know that but as soon as we get the letter telling us when the ceremony is we'll be there. We got the internal affairs letter just now telling us we've got it but it's not actually granted till the ceremony.

Re: citizenship
We are hoping to do it next year. Can you confirm the price per person and what benefits (if any) there are being a citizen over a PR, other than the govt. being unable to throw you out of the country if you have citizenship. Ta in advance.

Re: citizenship
I don't actually think there are any more benefits I think we could run for a place in parliament or something.
We did it because this is our home, that's all really, just because we felt we should/wanted to.
It's not cheap, $460 per adult and $230 per child.

Re: citizenship
If I might ask: How long did it take from first applying to receiving the letter?

This wiki article is Australia specific and not all of it applies to NZ, but should give you an idea of the issues:

Well done L&L.
I'm sure you'll be enjoying a quiet wine on the porch as soon as you can!

Our ceremony will be in Kaikohe and the letter said it will depend on numbers as to when it is so we're not sure yet. The last ceremony I saw in the local newspaper that took place there had about 20 ish people in it. Our friends applied 2 weeks before us so I reckon they may have their letter today ( but they're on holiday just now) so that would make 4, just need another 16
It took a week over three months. We got our passport and birth certificates etc back last week. It was much quicker than they suggested in the first letter we got which said it could be up to 12 months.
Sparkie I am very happy here - don't want to move to Oz!
Southerner, we've just come in from the deck! it's a glorious evening now we're going to have the traditional kiwi meal of fajitas to celebrate

I have heard that its REALLY important to have it for your kids over their current PR...summat about when they do their OE...citizenship guarantees entry to NZ after many years where PR may not..any ideas?? NZ passports are MUCH cheaper than UK ones..another reason to do it!!!!
