Default Christchurch hotels

Have been looking into a 3 day stopover in Singapore but to get 4 in a family room for 3 nights is going to be expensive at around £250 + per night,so thinking about stopping in Christchurch for a couple of nights. Has anyone got a recommendation for a good family hotel?

Thanks in advance

Hi Phyl, we stayed in the Ibis in Christchurch, soon after it opened. It is just off Cathedral Square, so ideal location. They do rooms that can take 2 adults and 2 children. Worth shopping around - they had an opening special on, so we booked direct. However, Wotif.com is very good (offering rooms to fit your family from NZ $ 99 at the moment but you can only book upto about 28days in advance). Not the largest rooms but clean and beds were huge. Some have no view but we used it mainly to sleep in, spending our days out and about! If you look at Trip Advisor, people give recommendations for local breakfast restaurants (cheaper than hotel) etc. Have fun!

Have you thought about staying in the residences at the university? Please call Liz McKay on 64 4 364-3493 to discuss rates. You will be out in Ilam but a quick bus ride to city centre.

Have you looked at Singapore Airlines stopover deals??? We used eBookers for our bookings and they got us really really good deals with both Malaysian & Singapore airlines on stopover hotels.

Hi Phyl

We stayed at the Airport Gateway the night before our last trip to the UK and found it absolutely fine. They pick you up in a stretched limo from the airport and take you to the motel which is about 2-3 minutes away and will take you back again. They have family rooms too. It is a little way out of Christchurch centre but I am sure there are buses etc to take you into town. Just search airport gateway in google to find it. Louise

In Singapore, try the Furama City Centre. Good location and not that expensive. Id sooner stay one day there than 10 in Christchurch

You know, if your kids are under 12 they stay at the Holiday Inn for free and eat for free when accompanied by an adult.

We are validating to go to Oz in July and have booked a two bed apartment - (although they also have 3 beds also) in Singapore at Le Grove Apartments, Singapore (just google) for £859 for 6 nights. I take no responsibility as we haven't been there yet but it looks good for the money! What has swung it for us so far is a) the cost and b) the fact that they pride themselves as being extremely helpful and friendly and there are comments on one website from travellers who have found this to be the case. Good luck wherever you end up.
