Hi!
Good rentals are a bit thin on the ground at the moment. Most recent arrivals are trying to get them in the west or north of the city, as less damage there. If you are coming over on your own, then a room in a house may be an option at first. Look on www.trademe.co.nz for an idea of what is available.
What's hot? The Crusaders are back in ChCh! . Entertainment has had to move from the CBD to the suburbs - Addington and Riccarton are probably the most popular at the moment. What sort of things do you like doing?

Surely it's not like moving to Indonesia or Saudi Arabia. The average bloke living in Christchurch is presumably not that much different from the average Brit, especially one from north of the border, like yourself. If I was in your shoes, I would prefer to mix with the locals anyway...unless they challenge you to a game of rugby or a bungee jump.

Plenty of good golf courses in ChCh. Cycling is also good, with the main of ChCh flat (ish - roads can be a bit on the bumpy side after the recent events! ) but also plenty of hill climbs available too. Easy to get to lots of different places by road or plane, as well as two rail journeys - trans coastal and trans scenic.

So whats the crack with you scottishstacey? Are you in the process of migrating....Its a headache, i was going through the motions of trying to get back to canada, but this opportunity came up and i thought it was too good to knock back, seen how things in the UK on the job front are not great, who knows I might want to stay in NZ - we shall see........Cheers again for the info chippy, looked up that site, not bad at all - saved to favourites

We've got a interview with fulton hogan coming up, think we're booking it for next week. it's hard to fit it in because dave works away from home up in oban. so we'll see how that goes and take it from there.

i've got a headache and we havent really got anywhere with it yet lol. where in canada were you? we also thought we'd try canada but havent got anywhere with it and this interview came up so we'll give it our best shot and see if we get anywhere with it.

Yeah things arent going too well with construction in scotland. All you can do is give it a shot and if it doesnt work out or you dont want to stay then nothing wrong with coming back

Golfing!!!!

Welcome to cheap membership

I joined Clearwater golf club last week for the same equivalent as what I was paying for membership in London. My mouth dropped when they announced the pricing. Clearwater is slightly different as you have to be a shareholder before obtaining membership. It cost $2000 in total but I was paying 1,090 in London at a poor small course. Clearwater is easily up in the best golf courses i've played. It's better than Gleneagles and Carnoustie in my opinion and I used to adore my week holdiay trips to Scotland for golf purposes

You can get membership at decent courses like Templeton and Harewood a lot cheaper than that. Christchurch GC is very snobbish and I believe Russley Park is as well. I'm not keen on clubs where you need someone to nominate you as that's too snobby. The courses like Waimairi Beach for example are in repair, still open but being repaired. Hagley is the oldest and cheapest course in New Zealand but it's cheap for a reason!

hey andy, congrats! the interview was a last min thing, we had originally been dealing with recruitment agencies, one of them was very helpful and sent out information like the visa forms for us to look at and said their client was interested but then we never heard from them again so we decided to have a break from it all but then a few days later we got a email from FH asking if he would like to do a skype interview. So we're organising that for when hes back home next week, its hard to do while hes working away. I'm from the lanarkshire area, lol you've been around scotland eh! He works for a company called hodge thats based down here but they've got a contract up in oban the now putting up a windfarm, im sure he works with alongside a company called Blackwell, your more likely to know that name than his company

you excited about the move?? i was thinking of starting a christchurch thread since there seems to be a few people moving plus for the members already living there, just means everyone can talk about chch stuff without worrying about taking over peoples threads

sounds like a good idea stacey to have thread just for ChCh lol, as you say saves people like me hijackin threads. i know the company your man works for, there are wind farms popping up everywhere up north the now. ye am excited about the move and starting to get things together now, got my medical tomorow which im now worried about as im over the BMI limit thing and ive heard a few threads on this will people being rejected and stuff like that lol. hopefully it will go ok and or there wont be many problems. fingers crossed. the only reason i asked where you where from is cos i thought i recognised you in your pic lol! i used do work on the door of a nightclub in glasgow and you looked like a regular that used to come in lol!! just in case your thinking im some weird stalker lol!!
