Default Changes to NZ blood donation

Finally

Lived in the United Kingdom, France or Republic of Ireland between 1980 and 1996 for six months or more?

From Thursday 29 February 2024, the ‘mad cow’ (vCJD disease) blood donation criteria restriction in New Zealand will be lifted and you’ll be able to book an appointment to donate blood or plasma and start your lifesaving journey.

We’d like to thank you for your patience and understanding while we prepared ourselves for this significant change.

Considering they are supposedly so short of donors and blood stock is low, they don't seem to be doing very much to get this info out. There must be tens of thousands of migrants affected by this, many willing to give blood, who know nothing of the change

MrBEVS just learnt yesterday during a Medlab blood test, that we can now donate blood if we so wish He is A-neg. He was given the impression that the donor units only come to our area maybe 2 or 4 times a year. No idea if this is correct or not. Looking at the website it seems to rely on a shonky app and appt booking system.

I shan't be donating now at my age. It's hard enough for anyone to get any blood out of me for a flippin' test these days.

Yes. Very much so and I do not see this improving in the foreseeable.

For Nelson region it is a mobile unit from Christchurch. The next available date is actually not too far away in mid May. Two days only
