Can I just say that GOOGLE is your friend.
There are many not quite hundreds but close to it rental firms in Auckland some good some not so good but the good ones on the whole have websites and have been around for many a year. Just because it dont says Avis or Hertz dont mean to say its no good infact not even Hertz in my experiance is a patch up on the British version. With rental Cars in NZ they change the tyres when they become illegall eg 1.5 mm so just be warned big well known names are not allways the best.
Thats not to say you wont get a good deal out of a small operator or even good or bad service just need to look.
One thing to look at is you said Lorry! Just remember that over here you can not drive anything more than 4.5 tonnes on a UK licence renatal firms by in large may not recognise overseas HGV classes for insurance reasons. That said if you need someone to drive a truck I am sure you can find someone to help you out
btw all nice areas you selected with 30-45 minutes drive of Hamilton and just as far, hope the job pays well as by the sounds of things your going to need two cars and petrol here is on the up although fairly cushioned by a strong kiwi dollar at the moment.

Re: car hire
Hi there, We have used A2B car rentals in Auckland a couple of times and I have just booked a car with them again for my arrival in December. The vehicles are older but the rates are great. They will send a bus to the airport for you and then drop you off once you have returned the car. They have a website also. Cheers
