Re: Canstaff
I've recently went through the interview with canstaff for a joinery job in Christchurch all sounds good apart from the hourly rate £10-12 a hour is not enough money
Has anyone else thought this or am I missing something ?
You have to pay your flights and accommodation aswell

Had to pay my flights, accommodation, visa.
Beautifull place, but construction wages same as UK.
Would go back tomorrow, but wages crap and expensive as hell

It's true that the wages through the agency are lower than home. You do more hours a week over here and get holiday pay which I wasn't getting at home. If you get put up with canstaff in digs then you actually save money quite easy.
I've been here with them for nearly 8 months and I'm on more money now than when I got here. I can also make more when I leave them too.

Are you paying for your own digs mate ? I just don't want to struggle being over there as I'm on a higher rate here but I've heard its expensive over there for food
And %30 tax
Really want to do it just the rate thats holding me back

Re: Canstaff
a wee tip here lads...if your a half decent joiner/carpenter... don't go with canstaff. sort your own stuff out visa wise ( which you basically do with canstaff anyway) come over yourself and you will walk into a job.
with canstaff the rate is usually 25 dollars and that wont change for the 6 months your contracted to them. if you leave them within the 6 months you need to pay a bond to get released. there is a shortage of good tradesmen here so if your decent, you will get a lot more money. Canstaff charge near the $40ph mark then pay you $25ph. so you could easily get $30ph
moral of the story?? don't come tied to an agency.
