Does anyone have experience of buying an investment property in the UK whilst living in NZ?

There are plenty of companies around that will help you with this if you do an Internet search. Note that there is a 2% surcharge on stamp duty for non-UK residents.

The incoming Labour government have announced plans to increase the surcharge to 3%, although a date isn't specified.

Tate is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: Buying a house in the UK

We have just about completed a UK house purchase from NZ, completion is imminent.

The UK house purchase system is based on caveat emptor so, if you are used to the NZ system of full disclosure, be prepared!

SDLT comes as a bit of a surprise, more so as a second house owner and an overseas buyer. Both these additional amounts are refundable within set time-lines.

Conveyancing is laborious and relatively expensive compared to NZ, I would be happy to recommend the solicitors we are using.

We are a week or so away from making full payment. As tempting as Wise rates are, I shall probably default to using the ANZ for the transaction.

Good luck! Tate

Don't use the bank standard exchange rate, ask them for a dealing desk rate.
