Have you considered asking your employer (assuming you are working) for the reference ? That is what I did in the same situation last year

Hi, I can't help with a room (only been here 3 weeks myself), but can you access your last mortgage statement from the UK, or Landlord's/mate's reference if you rented? That should give the agents some comfort. If not, maybe offer to pay 3 months or so upfront? Failing that, maybe look on Trademe for a flat/house share? That's a cheap option as you could probably share for around $150-200 a week all in.

Good luck!

Cheers, will do. Not rushing into it, got a new motel now at reduced rate so I can check out the area before commiting to a rental....

Do try Trade Me u can also get private rentals. Most people wont bother with references they will take u at face value.

Hi Can I ask what Motel you are using please, or just some tips. We are also flying out (Visa docs all submitted today to immigration) hopefully in July sometime. We (being the wife, myself and baby) will be needing some accommodation whilst looking for a rental. How are you finding it?

Thanks
Phil.

Hi phil, bring loads of references, I didn't but fortunately it's just me at the mo. I'll dig out the name of the motel later, it's on north shore between beach haven and birkenhead if that's any good to you, reduced rates and wi fi nice little chalet things, damn site better than I walked into any who

Found it Fernz Lodge, fernzlodge.co.nz nice outlook. Don't know if you want to be on north shore, but it's good for dissing out areas before shelling out for a rental, if they let you have one, am off to look over the west side now see what it's like over there, so if anyone has any input let me know. Thanks.

We don't mind too much at this point where we are. When I visited NZ beginning of April I stayed in Mount Albert near the train station, also a motel. I did some drives around the north shore - all very nice. The office I'll be working from is in Epsom, but I'm field based quite a bit anyway. thanks for the motel I'll check it out.
