We stayed at the New President which is very central;

http://www.newpresidenthotel.co.nz/

It's not amazing or 5 star or swanky, but it is in a great location and the staff were friendly.

We also thought www.rydges.co.nz or could be .com not sure was good value and again really central.

The Westin on Lighter Quay in Auckland is fantastic - also swanky and flash ! You can walk from there along the viaduct into town in about 5 mins.

Yep I am of the same opinion as Am Loolah - "The New President" I couldn't fault when we stayed there last year (It is part of the Best Western chain of hotels).

We are a family of 5 and most places would only allow four in a family room but at The New President we had x2 en suite bedrooms with a shared kitchen facility

We stayed at the Sky City. Everthing you need for the whole family. Swimming pool for the liitle uns, restaraunts for all the family, casino for the adults, different bars with live music which nippers are allowed in. And decent priced as well.
