Default Auckland bound!

Hello,

I stumbled across this site and thought I would introduce myself. I am Charlie, me and my partner will be leaving Leeds 15th May and getting to Auckland 16th June (little stopover in Malaysia and oz along the way).
I am a nurse and have a job on the ED at North Shore very exciting. We don't have much else planned but looking forward to an adventure in NZ!
I am 25 and Jamie is 31, we don't know anyone in NZ and would love to meet up with others there.

Charlie

Hi Charlie,

I'm Phil and we too may be moving to Auckland in the not too distant future.. so would love to hear your experiences of getting organised and planning for your big move. Myself, my wife Sajida and our baby girl Sophia plus our dog Roxy will hopefully be relocating to Auckland area due to a job opportunity I've received. But this has only come about in the last 10 days or so but quick decisions will have to be made once the offer is (officially) on the table and negotiations agreed!

I too am in the medical industry, but I am a medical device specialist - mainly for laparoscopic devices/minimally invasive surgery.

We are at the very beginning of our costing up and getting papers for visa organised.. but we are still very excited at the prospect! Good luck to you guys.. and hope the relocation goes smoothly.

Phil.

Hi Charlie,

my husband and I moved to New Zealand 18 months ago and are now living on the North Shore in Auckland. Rob's 30 and I'm 32. We are loving it here, especially the long sunny days, the barbecues and the beach :-)

Would love to meet up some time once you guys get here. I'll PM you my e-mail address :-)

In the meantime...happy packing and safe journey!

Take care x

Hi Phil
That sounds amazing, do you think you will be moving soon after the offer is on the table then? I will defo keep you updated with our move, even though we are leaving UK in May we haven't really organised much. We are renting our house out here and gonna sell most of our stuff so just coming with our rucksacks and not much else
I'm still awaiting my nurse registration but in the last stage and then can apply for our work visas. Keep us updated with your plans too, hope you get the offer you want!

p.s. our cat is called Roxy too but we are leaving her behind

Hiya Elle,

Thanks for your reply! How are you finding it now after 18m? Would you recommend the North Shore to live? Cause I've been looking up near Torbay or maybe Rodney instead like orewa way.
We would love to meet up, be nice to make some friends. I'll keep in touch by email.

Thanks for that Charlie.. I will keep you posted. I can't bare the thought of leaving Roxy behind but the prices to take her are creeping to £4000 alone just for her! Also renting a place over there is going to be really limiting in terms of the options for a place as not many appear to be dog friendly, and mines a German Shepherd! :-/ As far as making a decision, once they put the official offer on the table, a quick decision will need to be made... approx a week and half I would think - they want someone there in June!! Which is pretty fast, assuming he Visas come through in time of course. Hence i'm doing lots of research so if they d offer the right 'dollars' for the role I make a reasonably well informed yes or no. :-D Happy Days!

Hey Charlie,

How exciting for you both! Laura (my partner) is a nurse and works at North Shore Hosp. She works in ED (an extension of it...) we both live very close to the hospital. I know she's much healthier working there than she was back in the NHS! We arrived in NZ in June last year.

Good luck with your move, its a great thing to do.

We'd be up for meeting up as well as in truth.. we haven't made a huge amount of friends, buts its been nice being able to focus on us for a change.

Hey David,

I just saw your post and was thinking...how about meeting up some time for coffee/drinks? My husband and I live on the Shore as well.

Send me an IM and we'll work out something

Take care

Hi Ellie - thanks for the offer. It appears I am being taken out by a group of nurses tomorrow night.... not an easy offer to refuse . When you guys do something again - let us know or we can suggest something again on here.
