Default Anyone lived in Sydney - Help??

Hi to all

We have a possible opportunity to move to Sydney - does anyone have some really good knowledge of suburbs and help?? .... we are currently in eastern bays of Auckland - St Heliers - can anyone throw some Sydney suburbs our way that maybe comparible to St Heliers, ie beach lifestyle, good schools, huge mortgage etc etc...

Thanks in advance

so long ago I can hardly remember (suburbs)...... Just don't go Strathfield - pretty crappy/dangerous area...

I largely remember Giant Gross Creepy Cockroaches everywhere.. Gotta Be Prepared! Sorry!

Good luck to you

Not been yet, just at very initial stages of having a nose to see what areas we should be homing in on. We love Auckland, but have had a big opportunity fall into our laps which we'd be stupid not to at least fully investigate before deciding on. So we're currently at the stage of (at least on paper initially) seeing what Sydney could offer us Vs where we are now in eastern bays.... it's hard to imagine though how somewhere in Sydney could beat St Heliers - 20 minute leisurly drive to CBD along the waterfront, great schools, nice village feel, safe, friendly, etc etc

Most of Strathfield is fine. There are some beautiful homes there, and some of this suburb is highly desirable. There are ALOT worse places in which you could live. Think Cabramatta & Liverpool.

Good luck

Default Anyone been in Sydney - Help??

Can't help you I'm afraid, I'm in the tacky Gold Coast.

I knew a girl once named Sydney..............I have no idea how she got that as a first name!

Doesn't really help................

from my experience Strathfield was not fine. I hear it's getting worse lately. and it was the worst place I've ever lived in my life. That's it. sorry. I don't recommend.

My sister lives in Yowie Bay, near Miranda and Caringbah, part of Sutherlandshire. Not too far from the airport, some great coastal places near by. Other suburbs all in Sutherlandshire, Gymea, Gymea Bay, Grays Point, Lilli Pilli.

Dont know Sydney that well, except to know its pretty darn expensive....
Maybe ask in the aussie forum as well.

on a side note, what is your res status in NZ, are you NZ citizens yet, if not you do need to get a work permit for aus which may or may not be an issue.

Thanks for responses - we thought about the res status just as off to bed last night.... we've got perm NZ residency and have been here for 2.5 years .... I think you have to be here 5 years these days to get automatic entry into Oz (?) so yes I think we'd have to apply for work permits too - not sure. It may all come to nothing, but rather exciting to investigate and ponder over....
