who have recently come over to NZ who could assist a friend of mine please?
He wants to know how easy it is to socialise, what there is for 21 year olds to do, make friends, house sharing/renting rooms etc etc.
Also anyone in retail supervising/management role who could assist him in the transition from UK to NZ in this field? Think he needs advice on career paths, will he have to take a step back or could he come over on a similar level.
I know the obvious answer is 'all depends' but some constructive suggestions would be very welcome to this guy who is feeling a bit nervous about coming over.
He is hoping to come to wellington with his family later this year.
I am too old to answer his questions

I can't help (suspect wrong end of 20) other than to say that trademe is his friend for flats. Is he into any walking/hiking/ He could join the Wellington Mountain Club. Personally i would rather cut off my fingernails at my elbows....but some people like it.
Oh, and the pub was the first place that sprung to mind. But they could be easier to attend when he has a couple of mates to protect him from the kiwi girls!

I can help with the retail side of it, PM with with any specific questions....basically NO do not take a step back when you come here, the standards expected of retail managers in UK is much higher than that here in NZ, apply for a simular position or even higher! Retailers love UK retail managers! And there are loads of positions available.

And I guess I could help with the other bit too, Although I am not in my early 20's. If he needs to keep a proffessional distance at work, (athough most KIWI managers don't bother!) the best way to get out and meet people is though sports teams, or by getting to know people by sharing a house which is pretty common. And the night life in Wellington (for the week I) was there was pretty cool and I found people to be real freindly, and helpfull
