Re: Any comments on the shite forex?
Last I looked it was something silly like 3%! I've started a new business here in NZ so once that is up and running and I pay my UK tax in April I might just move all to pay off some of the mortgage.

I've been considering doing a bit of research to see if there's a currency that's particularly weak against the GBP but strong against the NZD and seeing if, when doing a large exchange, it might work to go GBP>JPY>NZD for example.
Maybe a ridiculous idea. I really don't know.

As someone who only has and makes kiwi dollars, it makes my wages seem much better when compared to the UK than they did when I first come over...

The currency is not expensive if you're over on holiday !!
It's all as cheap as chips in the Uk at the moment. Came back from a Christmas break there last weekend and JohnRocha jeans at Debenhams 21 quid; 5 pairs of socks at Debenhams 4 quid; 2 work skirts & 2 short sleved knitted tops from Benettons 97 quid - couldn't believe it !!
Also saw shoes from 17 quid. Average UK house price, from memory, something like 240,000 quid.
Just shows how much we get ripped off here in NZ. Costs going up & up but wages static with very limited opportunities if you have any career aspirations at all.
Can't wait to get back over to Sydney in 4 weeks time - will be earning 70% more than what I have here and believe me, whilst its expensive there, the cost of living is NOT 70% more than that of Auckland.
That is why so many young are leaving for Australia. We made a big mistake coming back here almost 2 years ago but luckily are in a position to return fairly easily

I don't know what peoples feeling is but with Bank Of England looking at another round of Quantitative Easing (QE) now inflation is at 4.2% it seems possible the NZD could be valued upwards again.
Remember a few months ago Bill English telling us how low wages could be an advantage? I guess for those moving from the UK selling up has become a less viable proposition but the continued increase in earning potential here could have positive implications for those looking to work full time here. Swings and roundabouts.

I know Genesis. I feel your pain. Best thing that me and Mr BEVS decided upon was to take the perceived hit & to put ourselves out of our agony by simply bring over our pension funds. It was like holding onto a treasured item slowly submerging in quick sand. Once we let go, it felt a whole lot better.

Looks clever now BEVS with record low interest rates in the UK and inflation ebbing it away . It’ll be difficult for some folks to retire in the not too distant future when houses slide back to a point that reflects the typical historic levels.

Re: Any comments on the shite forex?
not wanting to cause a spat here but you were grumbling about it being crap months and months ago when
the rate was much better than it is now. even then a simple fool like me could see it was going nowhere fast.
You cant keep banging on about it being crap when like everyone else who is now complaining you sat through
the better rates blindly ignoring what was happening in front of you.
I know these monies are our future investments but sometimes you have to bite the bullet and get what you
can when can and if you don't you have no one to blame but yourself
