Am I right in thinking these buggers stop your super payments if you are out of the country for more than 6 months
Wouldn't that make it impossible for folk from NZ to retire overseas where their money in retirement will go further, or is there a way round it

You have to apply for your pension to continue beyond 26 weeks (except seems this does not apply if going to the UK and I expect that's because of reciprocal arranagements). I imagine it could get very messy if you are intending on doing 50:50 in NZ and UK but elsewhere doesn't seem to be an issue.

Asking because I heard a guy on the radio saying he and his wife didn't have much in savings and only about 80k between them in kiwisaver, so they had decided to retire to Thailand, which is very easy doable.
I was later talking about this with someone at who brought up the 6 month thing.
I would never do 50/50, I'm not that desperate to be anywhere in particular

Found this which offers a little info but doesn't really answer the question properly in regard to non reciprocal countries.
