ANOTHER BIG QUAKE FOR CHCH
We have just had another big quake here and a few aftershocks, not sure how I am connected to the internet cause the phones are down. We are fine here but just waiting to hear on family near by. I think it will be a big one when the confirmation comes from Geonet.

Will there be no let up for Canterbury and Christchurch. Right before Christmas too.
Reports are suggesting a vicious 5.8 with fresh liquefaction , damage & power lines down.
Just so sad that this has happened again .
Hope everyone in the area is safe.
Thank you so much for thinking to let us know Shirl.

Terrible news again for Christchurch. Just watching the effects of the liquifaction on the news, horrible...
Good news no-one has been killed, but definitely not what Christchurch needed.
Keep safe everyone.

Re: ANOTHER BIG QUAKE FOR CHCH
We live in Parklands - one of the suburbs hit by liquefaction. Huge sinkholes in our road but the road parallel to ours - nothing!
I was with my husband in Westfield Riccarton when it hit. I was surprised how calm I was at the time. The noise was what hit me first, followed by the shaking, the stock, ceiling tiles etc falling and then lots of screaming. My husband grabbed my hand and said 'Karen, it's an earthquake, we need to get out now!'.
My youngest son phoned me - he was in New Brighton when it hit and was absolutely terrified, said he felt like crying when he got hold of me. My eldest boy Sam (of the February heart rending account) was in the Mall with his girlfriend. He was ok until the 6.0 hit on our way home, when he broke down in tears.
When we got home, (had to park quite a distance away) we were amazed that everything was basically ok.
However, the most important thing is that I have now walked around several areas of ChCh in my bare feet (no gumboots ) but even more important is that no-one is seriously injured, although I can't say what our state of minds are like.
Power back on for now but still no water. Red Cross have been round to check we are ok which is fab.
Chin up ChCh!
