Default Wotton under edge

Well -we've been back 5 months now & have still failed to find anywhere to live here in the South West.Currently living with relatives in Bath but desperate to find our own place. Nothing much on the market atm as people are sitting tight if they can afford to.
Today I saw a really nice house in Wotton under Edge - not a town I know at all. Does anyone have experience of living there ? As the kids have all but flown the nest we need a community that we will be able to settle in without the help of children/schools. Other than getting OH to London once a week (& he won't have more than a 2 hour journey door to door) we haven't really got any ties to anywhere which is actually making it really hard to make a decision about area. Our daughter has one more year at school in Bristol (she weekly boards as she came back to the UK before the rest of us) & our son has just accepted a uni place at York. I have family in Bath & Cornwall & very dear friends in Bristol & the Cotswolds so we have gravitated towards the SW. My OH is hoping to get a job in Bath or Bristol in the longer term so ideally we would like a place that is commutable to either. One of the important things for us is that we have good dog walks etc on our doorstep & access to somewhere with a bit of culture for those rare trips to the theatre etc.Don't want to be too isolated as we really need to become part of a community but equally don't want to live in a citycentre.

Ideas anyone ?

We lived there ( W U E ) for 12 months just before we emigrated. If we hadn't have emigrated, we probably would still be there. PM me with your questions.

I love W-U-E. Its a pretty town nestled in the countryside but with easy access to Bath and Bristol. I used to live just down the road from there and my aunt lived there for 10 years. However, its been 12 years since I was last there so cant give you any current info. Tangram is your point man on this one

Can't help with WUE, but I was born and raised in Wells, Somt and family still live there. It's where we will be returning to but not long term as we are fairly young and will need to be closer to London/SE. But all in all Wells is very very nice IMO, property can be a bit overpriced due to the Cathedral etc but surrounding areas such as Street, Glastonbury are nice as well.

This would be a longer drive to London than 2hrs, but Bath and Bristol would be within 30mins if your OH did land a job there.
