Wise issues.

Hi, I moved back to the UK from Massachusetts six years ago. I have a US pension and use Wise to transfer it to my UK bank every month. For a while the transfers would go through in a couple of minutes. However recently, they have either taken about 4 days but now seem to be cancelled before the transfer completes. These cancellations are a bit scary as they happen after the money has been removed from my US account and it is usually a day or do before it is put back. No explanation is provided on why the cancellations are happening, while a phone call to the helpdesk only led to a confused conversation (will try again). The transfers are set up so that the money comes from my US account by ACH (a direct debit?). I can't do a wire transfer as that requires physically going into a bank branch which is in the US and I'm in the UK.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Any suggestions?

Many thanks for any help, advice you can give.

With best regards,

Paul C.

Hi there, yes I've had the same issues with a monthly transfer, they blamed it on my UK Nationwide account taking time to process, but this didn't use to happen.

Once is a blip, repetition rings alarm bells.

I regularly transfer from my NZ bank account. I haven't had one cancel however i have had a couple take up to 48 hours especially if over the weekend. Quickest has been 2 hours.

Thanks everyone for the responses,
I'm not sure what's going on. Thinking of setting up a Wise bank account so that I can transfer money there, convert $ to £ myself and then send it to my account in the UK.\

Unfortunately, it's not a SS pension. They only allow one option of paying it into a US $ account. Thanks ShelleyR75, sorry you had the same problem, but interesting to know that I'm not the only one,

I'll let you know how I get on.
Cheers, PaulC

You could ask both Wise and the destination bank for the reason for the delay as it may be possible to satisfy them and prevent a recurrence. Or consider changing whichever institution is causing the delay for an alternative.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems like this, I used the method you describe for many years. These days I have a Wise $ account, put my US pension money there and then send the money from there to my UK bank account using the Wise app.
