It's funny what you get used to, after working in London day on day out for 6 yrs I began to hate the place and craved a small town. Ironically I moved to a city of 80k which is 15k more than where I used to live in the UK (Guildford) Are you back in the UK now? |

I don't know what it is about Perth. I lived there for 13/14yrs and couldn't wait to get away from there. I only stayed that long because my wife was from there. We live on the east coast now and knowing that you can get cheap flights up and down the coast is great. I still have some friends in Perth and they like it. mind you, none of them has ever lived in the eastern states and they just emigrated to Perth. I had lived in Sydney before Perth and had seen other parts of oz before living in Perth. I'm afraid Perth was just to isolated for me.

Re: Why do so many of us leave Perth?
Perth is great and I love it there each time I visit on business or holiday. thing is that for a long while it was so far away from everything (still is). I was reading it is closer to Singapore than Sydney (mad). Why Poms love it there so much I don't know. I mean it is great to bring up kids and you are guaranteed great weather, plus it is very chilled and was cheaper than the East until they discovered the mineral boom.
The scenery is superb and diving/watersports great, but if you don't like that and can's bear year long heat then I suggest giving it a miss. I mean it is nowhere like the UK and unless you like the isolated feeling of living somewhere for the rest of your life then you won't like Perth. To be honest if people say that Oz is isolated, then Perth is even more so. Couple that with the fact that the higher paid office jobs are on the east coast and you will struggle once there (unless you are in mining or engineering). Just my take folks. Have a great Chrissy- I am off to the beach now.! |
