I was in by far the most interesting, or fun as you put it, place in Australia - Sydney. And to be fair I liked Sydney a lot. But it is just one city. Outside that, once you have seen one gum tree you are pretty much seen them all.
The weather I grant you is rubbish here at this time of year. I make no bones about that fact. I await spring. But as for places to see, the UK is hard to beat. I love the national parks - 14 in of them in he UK - and the 27 UNESCO World Heritage Sites (compared to 16 in Australia if we're comparing). We're trying to see all or most of them. THAT is fun. I'm not convinced you actually know that our taxes are among the highest in Europe. But anyway, high taxes on cigs, beer and car fuel I can put up with, and approve of. The working hours - 25 hours a week and 28 days annual leave. Where is the problem? obviously u dont smoke or drive much ? and i guess you approve of paying the rates and no doubt think Tony Blair is the best pm ever lol If your only worried about parks and heritage boring stuff then yea stay here lol me i prefer more than walking around a park in cloudy dismal days thankyou .. |

I don't smoke. Don't drink that much. Have to drive a fair bit. All should be taxed. There is no pleasing some people. See you when you return from Spain my dreaming friend. I adopted a German Shepherd at 7 months old who had been thrown out of car and was so thin, it took me ages to get her healthy again. But if we were a nation of animal lovers, then maybe we wouldn't need the RSPCA either? At least in the med countries they look after their elderly better and don't put that responsibility onto the state/strangers. Anyway I thought you were thinking of going to live there, there is more than just the weather and Little Englanders...:p:D . I remember going to Nerja/Torre Del Mar some 16 years ago and the problem was just as bad and there was hardly any british people, also OH Dad lives in the mountains and came to Spain with 2 dogs and now has 7 plus goodness know how many cats they have taken in, saved from being dumped/drowned and where they live they are the only Brits. At least we have the RSPCA they have a few charities set up by either Brits, Swedish, or German and cost them personally a fortune. I also agree that some brits are just as bad, but in Spain/Greece the majority of the dumped/ drowned animals are not by Brits. That was my point. We are still considering living there it just depends on what the offer is like . |

For those who I haven't 'met' yet, I have been here in the US about 17 yeras now. After the first 5 I was so homesick for the UK that I persuaded my American hubby to go and live there. So off we went. It was brilliant for about two weeks. We could never make as much money as we do here. Yes I know money isn't everything, but when you have been living in a 4 bedroom house to a 1 bed flat in East London it can get depressing very fast. Now I did have my baby there and I have to say the care, delivery and after-care is probably the best in the world and I am still in contact with my midwife to this day, but to try and make it over there with the cost of train fares, taxes and life in general is too hard for us anyway. It was nice seeing my old friends, but what a lot of you don't realise is that in the time you leave and the time you return, your friends have made other new friends. So after the initial arrival they would be off doing things with their new friends anyway. We were invited,. but I didn't care for the newbies. Anyway, I love the UK, but I wont ever live there again by choice. I am not going to slag it off, but I know you all know what I mean when I say it's drab and miserable, you get crappy service and there is nowhere to park. Ok I apologise for my rant, but I just wanted to let you all know I did it, I went back and it was a huge mistake. Hopefully it will work out better for all of you. I wish you luck. Cheers |
