Re: Where to retire?
Has anyone seen David Dimbleby's Picture of Britain? So, so brilliant. I thoroughly recommend it to everyone going home as he observes Britain's beauty and its rich culture perfectly.

Someone suggested it to me, and that got me doing research on it. So far I have heard only positive. The Maltese are known for being very friendly and welcoming. There are plenty of expats living there, I have found a forum which is super friendly, and English is an official language. I have heard that it is cheaper to live there than England or Germany, furnished apartments are easy to find to rent, and cost a lot less than in the UK. Easy access to all major European cities. Great climate (for me, who is used to heat after 26 years in South Carolina). It is a small island, for me that is good, as I have no family or friends left in England so I am at a loss to know where I would live there. But in Malta, not so much choice! Public transport is inexpensive and I won't need to drive a car to get around. Malta and UK have an agreement, so healthcare would not be a problem. I am thinking of giving it a six month try initially. I could go on, pm me if you wish.
My dad lived for a number of years in Malta after WW2 - I know that's a long time ago  but he always said how warm and friendly the people were. |

Possibly Penticton in Canada, for those long hot summers.
