Just saw this on the BBC news,
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7759533.stm
It basically explains the impact of how change in Britains social structure is breaking down the community spirit and how fast it's happening.
It made me wonder if that's why people ping pong back and forth looking for that elusive sense of belonging to a place or maybe a time.

Sounds really interesting, but unfortunately when I look at the video it's just a commercial!

To the OP you only have to talk to most poms in Australia as you know about why they left the U.K and you will quickly get a good idea. There are many different reasons but the same reasons come up time and time again, far too sensitive and I am not going to go there

Btw I am probably one of the worse cases I don't feel I belong here nor there.

Oh bloody hell. Typical BBC, seethingly judgemental that 'deep roots' are somehow superior without giving any evidence as to why.
A town that has a high proportion of residents that were not born there might also be described as 'cosmopolitan.' I can't imagine a worse kind of hell than living amongst the exact same people all your life. Sheesh.
Look at the sneer on his face when he says "those just renting a place," which he then follows up with "and those just newly arrived, what you might call bedsit britain." WTF? Twat.

I've read some of your posts before and get the feeling, although forgive me if I'm wrong, but you're not British born. If you are, then I apologise, if you're not, then it might enlighten you to know that British life has always been about the strength of a good community spirit. It's a way of life and it's what most ex pats find they miss most when they emigrate.

Today you hear of elderly people being found weeks after they've died. I guess some people might find the community spirit invasive while others find it a life line.
Personally it's what i miss the most in Australia.

How do you get the video to show what it's supposed to show rather than just a commercial?
