What do you do of an evening?

Just wondering what you lot do for entertainment in the evenings?

In the week hubby usually doesn't get home until 7.30ish and he's knackered. So it's usually snuggle up on the sofa and click......but we are both so damn bored of watching movies every night. The t.v is abysmal as we all know.

I could go and read a book, but my whole day is spent with my head in books/journals/reports/paperwork so I don't do that in term time.

We could play a game. O.k, I will admit to liking the odd game of scrabble but not every flipping night.

We could talk, yes that's nice but as I said, hubby is knackered and not really up for in depth meaningful chin-wags!

What else is there? Oh, and keep it clean!!!;)

Click around on here when hubby is out. When he's in, it's usually a night infront of the TV. Thankgoodness for Foxtel - as we watch UKTV most nights.

We have been watching Amazing Medical stories last week (can't remember what channel) - all about the half tonne man, and the woman who hadn't walked for 3 years, worn clothes for 6 years, and gone out of the house for 10 years!!!!!

Sad eh?

I go shopping WITHOUT my 2 yr old and 6 month and old leave them home with daddy. It's bliss having just an hour or two of peace even if it is food shopping. Most of the stores here open until 9pm and they have a great selection of everything. My favourites are the discount/outlet stores that sell designer clothes for next to nothing!

I also enjoy going to a place here once a month on Thursday evenings with my mommy club called tana's kitchen. I make 12 entrees that go in the freezer so makes life easy for half the month cooking. Much nicer than supermarket meals and fun to have a good natter with the girls about everything!

In the summer, autumn and Spring we sometimes go for a drive around the area here as we live at the base of the mountains. I also like taking my doggies for a walk and going out in my garden, spending time on the back deck having a bbq and a drink of nice wine.

If I'm home and stuck inside because of snow. I go online as my 2 yr old has control of the tele and I can't take Elmo or Spongebob anymore.:D

Re: What do you do of an evening?

I have season tickets to the theatre so about once a month I do that, last thing I saw was "Britannicus". Movies are always an option, I'm lucky that I have a couple of great cinemas just a short bus or bike ride away. I work to raise funds for a local repertory cinema so go to their events and film showings once a week. However, I skipped the last one as it was Inland Empire and as I've seen it already I made a point to miss the return screening. BBC America and PBS are always a good option when I want to stay in, of course you can go on internet forums.... and there's always reading. I devour Private Eye each week to see what's really happening in the UK, read the New Yorker and have a book on the go. When the weather's warm I go for an bike ride or run. Fridays and Saturdays its a meal and a few beers with the lads, maybe stay out to listen to some music and make fools of ourselves trying to chat up women.

Keep telling you to put the chipmunk away, one of these days they will see past the eccentric and lock you up...

On an evening we watch TV, we sit outside and eat, we go in the pool, read a book, don't go in the spa as we don't have one, don't walk the dog as it's dark and we go out to local pubs for a drink or meal when we can find one worth going to. Oh!!! and of course come on here and chat to family and friends in UK and browse around.

Yeh, and teach the critter to play a xylophone ... I know it's not the most original idea in the world but even cliches can be fun.

In any case I am banned from keeping furry animals by court order following the last unsavoury episode. Apparently there are only 3 places in the world where that act is legal and I didn't emigrate to one of them.

And Wales is too far to go for a quick fix.

Today I've had some Formula 1 qualifying (yeh, it's an acquired taste), some Brisbane Lions getting a spanking followed by The Simpsons, Dan Cruicshank doing his 'Around the world in 80 treasures' then, as an alternative to The Bill my OH forced me to watch some Iron Chef (wierd...) and then to round it all off, Rockwiz ... I may even get some Marvin Gaye in on SBS if the mood dictates and I choose not to catch up with The West Wing ... more likely is that I will get some kip.

Tomorrow I am looking forward to the latest Miss Marple.

I don't think TV is bad at all actually ... :)

Well last night we went with some friends to the INXS and Simple Minds concert at the WACA. We had a great time dancing, shouting, screaming and whistling. Quite a few people were doing the same but we had a row of people in front of us that quite literally only moved to clap and some of them didn't even do that. Whats that all about eh.

I was standing at westlife so there was a bit of action happening at the front but yes the seated bits were dead as a dodo. The woman in front of me had a cold and sat there with a box of tissues on her lap. It was quite extraordinary.

I tried to watch West Wing but fell asleep luckily taped it, did watch Commander in Chief but US pulled that I believe... watch Greys Antonymy, Lost, Prison Break, Heros, 24, Third Watch (when the Aussies keep it at same time just managed to catch the final episode the other night out of the blue) NYPD (when the Aussies put it on as it flicks on and off constantly without any warning of when it will be on again) ER (not on at present) and Medium and House. Think that's the main viewing at present and son and hubby watch Smallville, Simpsons and Futurama.

I used to get control of the TV for an hour a week to watch Casualty, but it always seems to clash with something like the 98,000th Invasion of Pearl Harbour now so I can't even be sure I get to see that. Thats why I live on BE!!

That made me chuckle... the 98,000th Invasion! I have to wrestle the remote off hubby to save myself from having to sit through Extreme Engineering!!! How dull can you get?

I love the Living Channel (sky in NZ), especially the programmes that see people in the UK wanting to buy houses near the sea or in the countryside. I can very vocal pointing out the beautiful scenery and properties. Falls on deaf ears most of the time.

I spend a lot of my evenings on the computer too - escaping to other places.

They're a worry aren't they, these blokes of ours. Mine disappears out into his Man Cave if his senses start to become too overloaded with the beauty of England.

And note I'm back on BE again this evening - it was that or watch a tour through the Ferrari factory. Oh the choices in life!

Just had a very British invite - 20 minutes notice, lets go for a drink! Yeah! Shades of my old do-it-now lifestyle....so we leap off to the pub (3 Expats, Bloke can't cope without a weeks notice of such events) and guess what - cos its 7pm on a Sunday evening in the Smart State of Queensland.....the pub is shut! God give me strength. Its 2007 FFS, not 1907!
Managed a couple of beers while the guys behind us threatened each other with various types of abuse, and pondered on another eternal Qld problem of a lack of daylight saving....if they inrtroduced it here, would it cause the feathers of the parrots to fade? :D
(now back at the house in front of BE while Pearl Harbour is still burning in the distance...... )

Well in England we all do just about what you do !! I know its very sad isnt it but we have a excuse dont we !!

Its dark at 5.30pm cold windy and apart from the last few days its been rainning for months !!.
Weekends turn up and we may grab a few hours doing the garden i dont know why we bother as we only get to sit in it and enjoy it a couple of months of the year
We may go up the town woo hooo shopping exciting isnt it !! Same shops in all the towns small shops forced to close so no matter what town you go they are all the same .. Mobile phones .WH Smiths-Woolworths-Boots etc..
Hardly exciting week after week ?

So normally Middle age people sit indoors hibernating in front of the telly , how sad is that now thats sadder than your sad for sure :)

Thats why i am leaving before i rot in the chair ! Need to get to a place where life runs longer than a few months in the summer

Evenings, eh? Well, I'm usually home from work by 5.30 pm. A couple of night's a week are spent on my uni course (mainly just reading at home) - Mr GG will occupy himself killing things on the PC (some shoot 'em up game or other). Wednesday nights are pub quiz night (we always do really, really badly as we're not terribly clued up about Aussie rules' greats of the 1970s). Thursday night is when a group of us from BE might hook up for an after work schooner or three. Make a bit more of an effort at weekends and stuff to get out - head to the opera, the cinema, pubs, free concerts - whatever's on, really. :)
