Default We've decided to move to the UK

Hi everyone, don't normally post on here but have been a follower for a few years especially the moving back to UK part.

I will just quickly introduce myself, I am from the UK living in Oz for 10 years and partnered to a Kiwi. I have been wanting to return for a long time.

Anyway, we have finally decided after I took him home last year and he absolutely loved it.

Now I am totally overwhelmed at the whole process of things to do, 1st is to start getting the paper work for his visa. We are going to go for a unmarried settlement visa but I am unsure if I should use an immigration agency or not? Partner has been naughty when he was younger but the convictions would be "spent" under UK law so I dont know if I should declare it?

Anyone who can give me any information on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Also any nurses out there who have let their UK visa expire? how long does it take to process that application. Also unsure to sell house here or to rent it out? Also can I access my super and if so, how much do they tax it to be taken out of the country?
A lot of questions I know...ive got lists all over the place!

Hi good luck and you will be overwhelmed at first with things to do...make a list if you can and start with the important questions first....don't make the list too long at first just the important questions......Super...it's hard to take out of Aus reading old threads it's nearly impossible unless you are not a citizen then I think it is easier but check with your super first....selling your home...thats really up to you.....do you need the money?are you thinking of returning for good? will you want a rental on the otherside of the world without being able to check up on it now and again?.....we sold our home and just put the money into our bank account in the UK but in smaller amounts at a time as we waited for the exchange rates to rise....not sure about the Nursing side of it.....I have not nursed for years and have not wish what so ever to return to it...no bad reason just it does not fit into my lifestyle anymore...some wonderful nurses on this site though that might help....can you not email the Nursing Association in the UK and ask them...even contact a local Hospital in the UK and they can always put you in touch if they do not know with someone who does....good luck and try not to get to stressed...take each day as it comes and if it's something you both want then go for it....

What Nurses visa? Do you mean your RN?
If you've been working in OZ bring plenty of proof and I don't think you'll have too much trouble, contact the Nursing council Midwifery council or something. This might help it has a news section

Thanks for the reply's. I am doing as you suggested and getting through things one day at at time..knackered just thinking about it! My mind is full of 1000 things all the time i need to write it all down!

To be honest though, at least i am doing something! the most exciting thing i do these days is take the dog out! getting into melbourne has become a total nightmare with their "1st class infrastructure" cough cough.

Well i am sure i will miss a lot about australia but its changed so much over the last 10 years i think for the worse.

Cant wait to get home and start moaning about the weather and the state of everything, its not socially acceptable in this country to do that cos everything is supposed to be awesome??? LOL

Hello, I am a nurse and having been living in the US for 20 yrs and I am hoping to move back in the near future. I also let my UK passport expire. I have 5 children all born in the US. I am single, my kids are all adopted. I too don't know wether to rent or sell or even just walk away as I probably owe more now than what the house is worth. If you rent , imagine the hassle if something happens to your property and being charged for repairs that do not exist(happened to a freind of mine) I just want to make a total move . I am getting all my children US passports incase as they get older they want to return. Good luck to you and keep in touch.

You cannot transfer your Australian superannuation if you are a citizen or permanent resident unless you made the contributions while you held a qualifying temporary visa.

Your children are adopted ... so are they British citizens? Adoption outside the UK does not automatically confer British citizenship, so they need to be registered as British citizens with the Home Office. This can be done as long as they are under 18 and the adoption meets UK standards.

Are you also a US citizen? Or if you have a green card, are you planning to abandon it?

My youngest is adopted in the US also, I had to fill out applications for Citizenship including all her adoption papers, final court papers etc it was pretty straight forward really a bit expensive about $700 or so. She now has dual nationality like the rest of the family. All of you will need your US passports to leave the US and UK ones to enter UK. Good luck with the move.
The housing market is sad isn't it, everything around us is dropping and soon our house will be valued at what we bought it for 17 years ago.
