Hi I am new this site and am a bit confused, I want to get some answers about moving back to the U.K. after living in the US for a long time (re-entry visa, etc) Could someone point in the right direction?

The Longer story: I am a US citizen born to English mother, American father (deceased) Have lived in the US for over 15 years with my elderly mother who now wants to return to live in the UK and I will be moving with her. I was previously a resident of the UK for over 20 years but after traveling around lost my residency stamp after being out of the country for over 2 years (was unaware that this would happen!) What do I have to do to go back to living in the UK and will my mother who is a UK Citizen need to do anything either? Any advice would be appreciated. I also have a 17 year daughter who was born in France (... thats another long story!)

Smags you may already be a British citizen by descent. Was your mother born in the UK, and where and what year were you born? Also what type of "visa" were you on last time you lived in the UK and why didn't you (or your parents) apply for a UK passport for you?

Oh by the way I've moved your thread into our Moving Back to the UK forum for you. Given as you had shared a little info about yourself anyway felt it was better to move your thread rather than you duplicate.

As your mother is already a British citizen she doesn't need any other docs to live and work in the UK except her British passport
