Default US Bank Account maintained after moving back to UK?

I've tried Capital One 360 account which I recently opened as online it was recommended as a Bank Account when living overseas ... but they insist on a US address. I have yet to contact Wells Fargo - but their online options only allow for a US address.

SO.... is it possible to maintain a US bank account after moving to the UK? Likewise any other financial account? I have read I can keep my 401K here - but will pay tax on it when I start to make withdrawls. I figured having a bank account would not be an issue ... but ...

Thanks for any insights.

I opened a Wise USD account from the UK. It comes with a US style bank routing and account number, and I have it linked to my Vanguard brokerage account which supports overseas customers very well. (I'm sure other brokerages do as well). To withdraw money from Vanguard, which includes a money market account currently earning 5% but mainly includes my IRA from which I make withdrawals, I transfer it for free to my Wise account then send it to my UK bank (Wise has excellent forex rates). My company 401k did not have the large variety of funds that Vanguard has plus I was doubtful about how well I could access the account online from overseas. (Vanguard has my UK Address plus my UK mobile number for security codes)

Ahhhh, thanks for that! I have been using Wise as recommended by yourself 🙂 so opening an account should be simple and that will also make the transfers and movement of funds easy.

Thanks!!

I had a JP Morgan Chase account for over a decade despite never living in the USA / having a foreign address.

Our daughter has maintained her Chase bank account since moving back to England last year plus she opened a Chase.co.uk account once she arrived back.

We have maintained our US HSBC account since moving back but a couple of years back they transferred all their non-Premier account holders to a different bank who required US mobile numbers for verification login codes which is why we opened Wise USD accounts and linked them to our brokerage accounts in case we lose Premier status or HSBC decide to do away with all overseas customers.

We maintained an account in the US with a local Credit union where we'd been living. They were very helpful. I even have a debit card attached to the account and use that in the UK.
