uncle returning to Uk from Oz after 35 years!!!!
Hi folks,
Had my uncle home for 3 months on a trip from Oz, he lives in Kangaroo Point in Brisbane. He first moved from Northern Ireland to Toronto, then Vancouver, saw a bit of the States and then moved to Oz.
He made it home for 35 years and on a recent trip home has decided that he's coming back. He never married, although had several live in girlfriends, however, being single now he has decided that good old Northern Ireland has a lot to offer. He was hugely impressed with Dublin, although not the prices, and can't believe how cheap it is to fly to mainland Uk and to different parts of Europe.
The cost of living in Oz is through the roof for him at the moment, he worked in the gold mines for years, but due to a recent back injury is now a foreman in a factory, I think he finds it boring. He only has a few more months until he retires and then hey presto, he'll get the old pension paid into his bank account here. He intends to grow old disgracefully.
He is one of four brothers and all of them up sticks and left in the early 70's, all to Canada initially. One brother died, another still lives in Vancouver and one came home after 30 years and lives on the home place with my elderly aunt (wife having left him for his best friend in the whole world!!!).
Anyway, just thought I'd share with you that you are never to old to come home!!!!!!
Good Luck

If he has Australian citizenship (which means he can return if he changes his mind) and is okay with the cost of living in Northern Ireland, then good luck to him.
He should bear in mind that the Australia-United Kingdom social security agreement was terminated in 2001, so he may not be able to use his Australian contributions record to get a British state pension.
As to whether he can get the Australian age pension paid if he is no longer resident, he should contact Centrelink. Private pensions can be drawn on regardless of residence.
