Nowonplan54,
Although our specifics are different I do relate to so much of what you are feeling. It is so stressful. I keep trying to remind myself that the plan doesn't have to be perfect and that we can make adjustments as we go and that those changes will be easier when we are actually in country.
Our children our younger than your two oldest which does make it easier and I am not concerned about them starting mid-term instead of September.
Like you I see the clock ticking (we are older parents) and I know that if we don't go soon it will only get harder and harder and eventually become almost impossible. Financially, like you, now is a terrible time for us to return but if we wait too long the door is going to close.
Sorry I don't have any words of wisdom but sometimes it can help just knowing that you aren't the only one who is spinning on the spot and feeling as you do. FWIW I think your reasons for wanting to return are sound and you are absolutely correct that those who have never lived out of the UK have no idea what they are talking about with regard to why you would want to return.
Hang in there!

Thank you for your positive support. I now understand how important these kind of fórums can be. I have only spoken to friends who although mean well, have their own agenda. One UK friend thinks I´m mad to leave but she has a flat over here and we look after it!! I will post any progress we make but until Spring we can't do much except follow the properties to rent on RightMove!!! Feeling better and have given myself a talking to. Need to be flexible, positive and ask lots of questions and be prepared to adapt to the changes and stresses ahead!! Thanks again.

You might want to check the application dates in the area you're planning to move to. When I applied for a reception place for my daughter (before we moved overseas), I think the cut-off for applying was early January. We left the UK in mid-March, and I got confirmation a couple of weeks before we left that she'd got a place at our chosen, very over-subscribed school; the parents of the next child down the wait list was delighted when we rescinded it!
