They're red hot on you having the correct paperwork though so as well as bringing your proof of your NCB, you also need to bring something from your current insurer, on their letterhead, stating that you have cancelled the policy. The latter was a surprise to me, but luckily we had something.

I would look at them all, no claims discount or not. I didn't bother with NCD but still only paying about £500 with Admiral for two cars; one year old Audi Q3 and ten year old Nissan Micra.

+1. I provided them with my claims history from my Cdn insurer along with a copy of my Ab driving abstract which confirmed that I did not have any driving convictions or speeding tickets. i called them and explained my situation and they were very helpful. Online quotes were very expensive and seem to be unable to handle situations out of the norm. That could have been because I was using a foreign (Canadian) licence. Good luck.

+1. Not only did they accept my Canadian NCB but they were the only one who would cover the car for up to six months a year abroad within the EU.

We found Aviva the cheapest for the first year, but I've discovered that I could have found cheaper insurance for year 2. I'm intending to change insurers for year 3.

Re: UK Car insurance
The insurers will always base their quotes on age of the driver, convictions, accidents, and the area they live in.

...and, at least in the Uk, on recognised NCB and the make, model and details of the vehicle(s) to be insured, as well as the proposed usage and where the vehicle will be when not in use. The quotes vary quite widely despite these commonalities which is why the OP asked the question.

Re: UK Car insurance
For older people, the Age UK organisation comes highly recommended as a price competitive car insurance broker.
