Yeah, the Walmart staff here get really confused, me with the English accent, my hubby is Italian, and my 3 little ones with American accents. If ever I have to ask anything, they hear the accent and nothing else. If I say am from the UK, they sometimes say, 'The Ukraine?' Guess Europe just confuses them, but hey, I don't know the presidents or where the states are I guess!

Re: ugh...homesick
One day recently, bearing in mind when is tornado season they have red banners going across the bottom of the TV and break in to programmes to tell you to 'seek cover' ...
Me and kids home alone, (the weather freaks us out anyway...give me a rainy summers day back home!) the kids were watching the TV, and came running saying there was a warning on the TV. I'm thinking oh bloody hell... Turns out there was no storm, there was a news alert that the head coach of the Huskers (local college A. Football team) has just been fired. Are you kidding me. Yet there is some major disaster elsewhere in the world, and doesn't make the local news... |
Re: ugh...homesick
Do you mean when Callahan got the boot from Nebraska in November 2007?

Re: ugh...homesick
Yep, think that was it. It was ALL people were talking about...maybe should get in to football to feel like I belong!

I would have lived just around the corner from you in UK - I was 10 mins from Hampton Court. I do miss the history and architecture from UK. We are renting a house built in the late 1990s, and the ladies at one of my playdates expressed concern that we rented such an OLD house!!!
