Whilst looking for somewhere to take the kids for the day I came across this review for Speke Hall near Liverpool.

“Airport noise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2012 NEW

Fancy building a magnificent house like this so close to a very busy airport!!!

For those of you not familiar with Speke Hall, it was built in the 1500's

I can't tell whether the reviewer was being sarcastic or not.

If it were a yank writing it they were probably being serious

A yank would never say "fancy" building ----. Definitely a good old British term.

I would have thought the reviewer had been to visit the house though so surely should know when it was built!

It's a bugger when you don't know if the reviewer is just thick or being funny...

Don't know if anyone has actually reviewed the Tripadvisor office, but there's some irony that it's a shithole in Needham, MA...near the Charles River, so close enough for a suicide jump I suppose

I remember hearing about an American tourist saying how insightful it was to have built Edinburgh Castle so close to the train station

As Speke Hall was named after the airport, shouldn't it now be 'John Lennon Hall'?

I was just following in the logic of our Trip Advisor reviewer. The airport was first. The airport was probably built to fly in catholic-catchers. (Speke Hall having a famous priests hole, for hiding the catholic priest)

Ha ha I did think you were being sarky but you never can tell in the cyber world! I grew up in the North West and had a school trip to Speke Hall, don't remember seeing any catholic Priests (unless they were in the hole) but I swear I heard the ghostly footsteps!
