We deal with both HIFIX and OZforex...usually a better rate with Oz, the higher the amount your transfering the higher percent you are given...if I think they are low I do ask for their opinion...usually very good advice is given and I may leave a deal for a few days etc until the rate is better.

Could you not open your HSBC UK account while in Canada?...we did this while still living in Aus....it was very simple to do and we had our cards etc with us before we left Australia and had already sent over money prior to our arrival in the UK.

I went through this recently. You can open an HSBC UK account in Canada as long as you can provide a UK address.

We're transferring our funds through HIFX so we have to get the money over quickly to get the best exchange rate. We feel so stupid, not going to the bank before we left but hubby can tie up other loose ends while there and hopefully that will be it.

This move has left us stressed out to the hilt. We're looking forward to some boring days ahead but that could be a long time coming. The list seems never ending of massive things to do - jobs, buy car, buy house, and so on. And breathe....

Yes, this is what we're planning on doing...just have to decide where to open the UK account, as we're not yet sure where we'll be living. We already have a GBP account here in Canada so can at least transfer $ when we have them.
