The Brixham Pirate Festival is on this weekend, only £2 for a return boat trip across the bay, or of course a free bus ride.

With our sunny weather continuing, I shall be at at Torquay's harbour in a short while to make the boat trip. Hopefully too a fresh fish lunch at Brixham.

A marvellous boat trip across to Brixham, it certainly helps to make Torbay a worthwhile location to consider for expats returning home to England. Otherwise put the Pirate Festival in your diaries for next year.

Pirates (or honest citizens dressed as pirates) were everywhere, and although Brixham was crowded for the occasion, it gave an air of excitement. Old fashioned gun drills were carried out with a lot of noise, and catchy music was played by Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers.

Example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kq3tlep0sps

A lot more things were going on including sword fighting, but I finally headed for the Western Lady boat jetty, and back to the beautiful setting of Torquay.

After spending a lot of time in Torquay during my vacations, I can say that it is a great place. There are a lot of beautiful attractions and the beach is really beautiful. It is a good place to visit since there are beautiful holiday cottages that you can stay in with your family even for a week. My favorite would be the http://www.bluechipholidays.co.uk/to...n-torquay.html. You can just look at their site. People visit the place because of the attractions. If you want to go here, make a good itinerary. Here is a good guide: http://www.torquay.com/see-do. Hope it helps!

However, I've been put off relocating actually into the Torquay/Paignton area per se because it is apparently among the sickliest council areas in England and includes some areas of extreme deprivation. As a result, I may consider Brixham and Stoke Gabriel but I'm looking more to Totnes, South Hams and up near Teignmouth/Shaldon and our kid may be bussing or training it in.
Hi Peter, I hope I didn't put you of with our PM about Dawlish I was giving opinion from my own views. It would seem you have somewhat of a dilemma. I have lived in Brixham during the 1970s and believe me there is less to do there than Dawlish. I'm afraid you are going to find most towns that are by the sea to be pretty much the same through out Devon and Cornwall, and i suppose in the rest of the country nice in the summer and usually bustling with people but come winter that's a different story. I suppose one has to start somewhere and then you will form your opinions. My first half of my life Born and bred in Northampton then Brixham, Burnley, Torquay, Bournemouth and then the next 30 years in America, and now Dawlish so as you can see I'm well travelled. When you have particular requirements is near impossible to get all you want in a place to live and call home.

Ps as i told you before i would think Teignmouth would be a better choice for your needs.
