Default Testing the waters....... Returning from Canada to UK

First of all, let me say I LOVE it here in Canada!
Secondly, my wife is miserable and wants to go back (missing her family, can't get an equivalent job etc...).
We ALWAYS said that if either one of us wanted to return seriously enough, then Canada isn't worth our Marriage!
I'm just trying to find out what we need to do / forms to fill in / how hard is it to return back to UK. Just a fact finding mission just now and I know people on here would be the best source of info!
Please feel free to give information folks?
Thanks
Kenny

Have you thought about trying somewhere else in Canada? PG sin't exactly a mteropolis and is kinda out of the way ... not really surprised that finding an equivalent job is difficult for your missus. Try further east, then travel home isn't quite so much of an ordeal.

If you are both British Citizens with current passports, there are no formalities whatsoever. Obviously don't know about the Canadian end of things.

All I wanted to say was "well done" in sticking with your bargain that you made at the beginning. It's nice that you really like Canada, but it's lovely that you will support your wife and return so as to make things work out in your marriage.

There are many on this site that might be just a tad envious.

I hope you both find what you need and continue to have a happy life, wherever it may be

PS - if you own a home in Canada, do try and sell it (and complete on that sale) before you leave the country. It makes things soooooo much easier. If you have already left the country before selling your primary residence, the taxman/your lawyer need to withhold 25% of the value of any gain you made until after that year's tax return and it can take months to get back all your proceeds. Just sell it before you go and then take the money and run

(see Posidrive's posts for some more explanations).

Good luck

Well, dont forget to sort out your tax situation first. Capital gains can be a bugger once you decide to leave (no longer primary residence), then there's pensions stuff etc to think about too I guess.

Missing family is a dream killer, you cant easily fix that by moving within Canada. If it was just the employment thing then consider moving to a larger (or different anyway) place, but if family is the thing, and finding a better job wont take her mind off that sufficiently, then you are probably doing the right thing. Good luck!

PS, is it true that Prince George is the gloomiest place on the planet in terms of hours of sunshine? I heard a rumour that a South African family with a child alergic to sunshine chose to move there for that reason. But I might be confusing my BC princes...
